"Wonderful weekend stay in this cosy cottage. Perfect base for trip to North Devon. The fire is amazing for winter and the bed was really comfortable and warm. Also the scones, jam and cream set up for our arrival were delicious!"

MONKLEIGH COACHMANS COTTAGE OVERVIEW
COACHMANS is a delightful self catering cottage situated through an archway in a cobbled courtyard in the grounds of Monkleigh village's old rectory, parts of which date back over 400 years. Although called COACHMANS COTTAGE it is in fact believed to have been the original bakehouse for the main house and the original bread oven is still in situ to the side of the wood burning stove.
Coachman's can be found in a very peaceful situation on the edge of Monkleigh village and within easy walking distance of the friendly village inn, The Bell, which also serves great food.
The house has extensive gardens of approximately 3 acres, plus a large wildlife garden with a large pond, an ideal spot to chill out and commune with nature.
These are available to those occupying the cottage to enjoy. Garden furniture and a small charcoal barbeque are provided. Please note that these grounds are extensive and unfenced so children will need supervision.
This cottage is in a stunning rural location and forms part of the traditional cobbled courtyard setting of original buildings to the main house. It is compact and has a wood burner making it a cosy, romantic hideaway spot for two. Off road parking is available directly in front of the cottage.

LIVING AREAS
Within the level open plan social space the wood burning stove is a focal point, and provides ample cosy heat whatever time of year you visit, additional wood is provided free of charge and can be found across the courtyard.

KITCHEN / DINING
The cosy combined lounge/kitchen/dining room has exposed beams giving a rustic feel.
The dining table and chairs seat two and on request a high chair can be supplied. A useful under stair cupboard contains such items including a vacuum cleaner, ironing board and brooms etc. The kitchen area has a modern built in electric cooker and hob, microwave oven and a very good selection of kitchen equipment.
There is a freezer along with a washing machine and additional sink facilities in an adjacent building, the former dairy.

BEDROOMS
The cottage comfortably sleeps two adults in the spacious bedroom which has an antique double bed and dressing table. The natural wood floor and coverings add to the period feel and give a wonderful feeling of intimacy.
A built in wardrobe ensures guests have ample storage space. The size of the room allows space for a travel cot.

BATHROOMS
Adjacent to the bedroom is the bathroom with a full size bath with hand held shower attachment.
The wood effect laminate floor creates a feeling of warmth. For added convenience, a heated towel rail and electric shaver point have been provided.

OUTDOORS
Guests have free use of approximately 3 acres of extensive gardens, fields and grounds. Feel free to meander through the original walled garden and fields. The pond is an eye catching feature, however, it is unfenced so careful supervision of younger ones is required.
Wood for the wood burner is stored under the linhay and is free for your convenience.

We had a lovely stay at Coachmans Cottage. It is really helpful that the friendly owners live on site so would be able to help with any problems - though we had none! Fresh flowers and a cream tea on arrival were lovely touches. An excellent centre for exploring the area. All as described by the owners.

A lovely cosy cottage with a great woodburner for fires in the evenings. We liked the decor in the bedroom particularly, and the touch of flowers and cream tea on arrival was lovely. “We had a lovely few days and thank you so much for your help and recommendations. We loved the touch of flowers and cream tea on arrival, and the woodburner made for cosy evenings. It was lovely to have the owners available nearby who were very friendly.”

A lovely part of the county and a great base to get around. Cottage is delightful and has everything you could need for your stay. Especially appreciated the fresh flowers and the cream tea and remember, when in Devon it's cream first! “Thanks for a lovely stay. Cream tea and fresh flowers were greatly appreciated 😁”

A lovely home from home with that extra touch of Christmas magic. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This quaint cottage was a perfect getaway for me and my dog Jas at Christmas and the New Year. The cottage is secluded and very self-contained and although I packed many things just in case (including a small Christmas tree) I didn't need any of it as everything I could want was on hand. There were tasteful decorations with lit trees by the fire and in the bedroom. The fire was ready to light and a Christmas cream tea ready and waiting. The owners Sue and Tom live next door and clearly put a lot of effort into making everyone's stay special. Once we were used to the narrow lanes, we revelled in coastal walks to Clovelly, Hartland Point, Croyde Bay and Jas especially liked surfing at Westwood Ho! We aIso managed to climb a few tors on Dartmoor and I reacquainted myself with some welcoming old inns from uni days. And after all that the water is always hot for a soothing bath and the bed exceedingly comfortable. What a great relaxing break!

“Cosy warm and comfortable” Reviewed on Trip Advisor January 14th, 2015 Loved this place and would definitely return. Don't be fooled when you arrive and pull up into the rambling courtyard outside of the cottage..it adds to the character. Although its quite compact it is so cosy, warm and peaceful with a pub up the road (5 min walk) serving lovely food and very friendly although the walk up is a bit "hairy" in the dark as there are a few bends in the road and no pavement or lighting. Such a lovely welcome when we arrived lovely touches like a xmas tree with lights and chocolates, a lovely fire ready to light and a wonderful cream tea laid out for us. The bed was so comfortable the best I have ever slept in while away and i was,nt waking up until 9.30 most days. Lovely area and not so far to travel to the beautiful beaches nearby..ideal for the dog. This is an ideal place if you require peace quiet and relaxation which we definitely got..to go out in the day for nice walks and return late afternoon light the fire and chill. Can,t wait to visit again. Thankyou to the owners.
