Key Features

Overview & Location

Georgeham Whitehaven is nestled in the heart of the picturesque village of Georgeham, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From here, you can easily explore many of North Devon’s renowned beaches.
The closest is the dog-friendly Putsborough Beach, famed for its sand dunes and surf breaks, followed shortly by Croyde, Saunton, and Woolacombe. Georgeham itself is a charming village with two welcoming public houses, a historic church, and a small post office/store, all surrounded by rolling countryside.
Whether you’re seeking long walks along coastal paths, exhilarating surf sessions, or simply tranquil countryside views, this location offers the best of both worlds.
Parking is convenient, with space for two cars on the driveway and the village car park just a two-minute walk away.

Lounge

Upon entering the lounge, you’ll immediately notice how bright and inviting the space is. Comfy sofas surround a traditional inglenook fireplace, where a wood burner and supplied logs await those cosy Devon evenings.
Large French doors open onto the rear garden, bathing the room in natural light and framing peaceful views of the fields beyond.
Entertainment is well catered for with a 42″ flatscreen TV featuring BT TV channels, a DVD player along with a selection of DVDs, and a bookshelf stocked with novels, board games, and children’s toys.
If you are travelling with dogs, they are welcome downstairs but kindly request that they stay off the furniture.

Kitchen and Dining

Adjacent to the lounge, the country-style kitchen is both beautiful and highly functional. Slate worktops and a butler sink lend a farmhouse charm, while the large Rangemaster cooker and gas hob make cooking a pleasure, even for large family gatherings.
You’ll find a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle, cafetière, and an extensive collection of cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, and utensils.
An extendable dining table in the kitchen seats eight people, creating a sociable hub where everyone can gather for meals or conversation.
Two high chairs are on hand for younger guests.
Just off the kitchen is a cloakroom with a WC and basin, as well as a utility area equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer to make laundry duties effortless.

Bedrooms

Upstairs, the accommodation is arranged around a wide landing that offers glorious countryside views through a large window.
The master bedroom features a sumptuous king-sized bed dressed in high-quality linens, built-in wardrobes, and a chest of drawers. Wake up to elevated vistas of Georgeham village and the unspoiled fields beyond.
The second bedroom also boasts a king-sized bed, built-in wardrobe, and chest of drawers, with equally lovely views over the verdant landscape.
The third bedroom is perfect for children or friends, as it contains two adult-sized bunk beds capable of sleeping four in total and includes a chest of drawers.
For families with infants, two travel cots are provided (you’ll need to bring your own cot bedding or arrange hire locally).

Bathrooms

The family bathroom has been finished to a very high standard and features underfloor heating for year-round comfort.
A large corner shower is fitted with a waterfall shower head and a handheld attachment, while a classic roll-top bath also includes a handheld shower. A spacious hand basin and WC complete the room.
Soft, fluffy bath towels are supplied for every guest.
Additionally, there is a convenient WC and basin on the ground floor, adjacent to the kitchen, making it easy for guests to freshen up without needing to go upstairs.

Front Garden

The front garden is well kept, with a small patio, neatly trimmed lawn, and a built-in bench—an ideal spot to sit and watch the world go by with a morning coffee.

Rear Garden

The rear garden is fully enclosed and not overlooked, providing a true suntrap surrounded by open countryside views. Here, you will find a paved patio area with an outdoor dining table, chairs, and a gas BBQ—perfect for summer meals al fresco.
A summer house stores sun loungers, a parasol, and is an excellent place to stash surfboards, bicycles, and other outdoor gear. After a day at the beach, the hot outdoor shower is invaluable for rinsing off sandy feet, salty hair, or muddy paws before heading inside.

Amenities and Practical Information

High-speed WiFi is included at no extra cost, and all heating and electricity are covered within the rental price, ensuring there are no hidden utility bills. The wood burner in the lounge comes with a generous supply of logs.
Two off-street parking spaces are available on the driveway, with overflow parking in the village car park just a short walk away.
Child safety is considered, with a stairgate available upon request. Well-behaved dogs are welcome for a fee, but must remain downstairs and be kept off the furniture. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the property to maintain a clean, fresh environment for all guests.

Optional Extras

Should you require any extras, bath towels (up to eight) and the use of two travel cots are available at no additional cost.
If you bring a dog, there is a charge of £40 per dog per week or short break.
The standard changeover day during peak season is Friday, although the property is flexible outside those weeks.

What a gorgeous week here at Whitehaven! The weather has been incredible and we have been enjoying the beach every day. The kids have had an absolute ball surfing (learning to!) and body boarding. Mummy even bought a wetsuit and went in properly this year! Thank you for a wonderful house to come back to every day. We are very sad to be leaving and can't wait to come back! ❤️

The house is just beautiful and everything in the house is well thought out with amenities, games & books for adults and children. There were instructions of how to walk to the beach. I got in touch once whilst there and was quickly responded to. The outside warm shower is a real plus. The inside shower is lovely and lots of pressure. The two pubs down the road are great. We preferred The Rock Inn. Parking is tight getting in and out, as normally 2 cars are parked on the road behind the two allocated spaces. However we ended up getting used to this very quickly. We loved the area a lot and would love to go back.

Thank you for another restful stay at Whitehaven! We loved celebrating Barclay's 1st birthday here and were lucky to be able to ride at Woolacombe & surf at Croyde! Rest of the week spent dodging the rain/hail but still enjoyed our Putsborough walks. We look forward to another stay soon. xx

Thank you so much for another lovely stay in your fantastic home-from-home! Despite the weather (!!), we have had an amazing and comfortable time. Managed to get out to Saunton Sands & Croyde Bay, and several visits to pubs (The Rock Inn is highly recommended for being child-friendly for our son Theo – lots of burgers consumed!!). Now returning home relaxed and recharged. Happy 2025!! XXX

We have had such a fantastic Christmas at Whitehaven. We have visited several times now and it never disappoints. The house is so well equipped, even for Christmas dinner! The beds are like sleeping on clouds & everything is just so well done. We visited Saunton Sands Hotel for a festive family day and it was fantastic. Definitely worth a visit. The views are spectacular. Putsborough beach is fantastic & the parking pass really helps. Also, Mace up is fantastic for picking up some essentials without having to head into town. We will be back! Thanks so much Colin & Sally.

Our first visit to Whitehaven, although our fourth stay in Croyde. Such a charming village which we love and always stay in. Whitehaven was so pretty. Ten out of ten to the owners for their attention to detail. We have thoroughly enjoyed our five-night break here. We have walked from Putsborough to or towards Woolacombe every day. Love it here and it was good to catch up with friends who moved to Westward Ho 7 years ago.

We came down to stay at Whitehaven for a winter break. The weather has been mixed but we’ve really enjoyed heading out for dog walks on the headland and bodyboarding. The best part has been coming home to a cosy cottage and sitting by a log fire. Bliss! We had a delicious Sunday lunch at the Kings Arms and a takeaway from The Wok in Braunton. We've had a really lovely time, we would love to have stayed longer!

WOW!!! Whitehaven! We absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful home! It was perfect in every way, from the furnishings, the comfy beds, the gorgeous kitchen! Extremely well equipped, everything was well thought out. It was immaculate throughout! A perfect central location to visit the surrounding beaches, Putsborough being our favourite and therefore the pass came in handy. Two great local pubs each serving great food! Lovely enclosed garden for our dog to enjoy, can't fault anything at all and we will definitely be back! Thank-you for sharing your gorgeous home, we didn't want to leave!

We’ve had a wonderful week here in Whitehaven cottage. The weather was fantastic, the walks strenuous (but beautiful)! Georgeham is a pretty village and the pubs were lively. We can certainly recommend the beer and food at The Rock Inn. The village shop is very convenient and well stocked. Putsborough beach is superb and a lot quieter than Woolacombe. Our mini Australian Shepherd Mr Darcy loved the sand there. Whitehaven cottage itself is superbly equipped and very nicely decorated – certainly a cosy home away from home. The neighbours are genuinely friendly and we felt very welcome. Thank you for allowing us to stay in this luxury home. Kind regards, Edward, Fiona & Family

Another great stay at Whitehaven. Mixed weather this time, still managed 3 days at the beach. Happy kids, happy dog. The children went quad biking – very muddy but they loved it. Once again sad to be leaving. We can't wait to be back in our happy place. x

We had the most lovely stay at Whitehaven. We felt totally at home. It was clean, comfortable and welcoming. Extra car parking in the parish car park which is 2 minutes away and free. Both pubs in Georgeham were great and we loved the cask ales and friendly staff! Beach pass was much appreciated. Choice Cottages' help with questions was excellent

Another wonderful stay at Whitehaven cottage in Georgeham, our go-to with our 2 dogs to visit Putsborough beach and surrounding areas. The cottage is just perfect and great enclosed garden (there is also a footpath directly from the garden which takes you to a larger field for morning dog walk). The bed in the master bedroom is huge and extremely comfortable. All furnishings are very good standard and towels and linen fantastic. The cottage is very well maintained and have noticed a new carpet upstairs. Very clean kitchen as expected. The child guard at the bottom of the stairs is such a great idea so stopping dogs from roaming around where they shouldn’t! Overall a 5* stay as usual. We will be back again for sure. Have to mention the Kings Arms pub which is 2min walk away…the BEST roast dinner, EVER…and the veggie option is outstanding!

We really enjoyed our stay. We arrived and instantly fell in love with your house. The log burner and comfy chairs made for great conversations. We especially enjoyed walking along the local beach and found a brilliant café. The house is beautifully kept and really felt like home for our short stay. Some minor points we think could elevate the stay is trying to improve the pressure of the water system. The shower is great but lacks some power and I noticed the toilet was wobbly in the upstairs bathroom. All very minor points, but I thought it would be helpful to know. Thank you for our stay, we really loved it.

Very nice and well furnished cottage in the tranquil village of Georgeham, walking distance from Putsborough beach. Sadly we had a very rainy week. We managed a few afternoons on the beach. The beach hut was fabulous! We also went to Barnstaple leisure centre for a swim – there is an inflatable session (1–2 Weds & Saturdays). We also took the children to Air Extreme, the trampoline park in Barnstaple, which they loved. Ice creams at the Croyde Hocken shop and a play at the park in Croyde (behind the post garage). We can't wait to come back next year.

The websites photos and description of Whitehaven was accurate and in reality even better. The cottage was clean with fresh bedding and towels and nice touches like the soap bars and the welcome pack. Clear friendly messages from the owners was a nice touch and they included a free Putsborough beach pass which we used daily and was worth £12/day. New TV had every channel and streaming service you could wish for. The kitchen has every utensil you could need. The oven excellent. We also used the washing machine and tumble dryer and the outside hose so useful to wash down wetsuits and body boards. A truly excellent holiday property. Recommend

A beautiful cottage in a great location. We only took the car out once as the cottage garden opens up to a footpath through to Putsborough and beyond. The villagers were friendly and the pubs were great. The Kings Arms became a favourite!! The cottage is well appointed and had everything we needed. The only thing missing was a hoover as would have been good to have a Hoover mid week. I know we were on holiday but it’s nice to keep the stone and wood floors clean from the day to day dust etc. The garden was great for Stanley the Spaniel as it really is completely enclosed. So many cottages say they are dog friendly but you often get to them to find fences and gates they can get under or over but this garden was perfect. We will most definitely return. We had a lovely week in a beautiful place

Our first visit to Whitehaven and won’t be our last. Excellent, comfortable cottage, just ideal in every way for us – excepting the memory foam mattress !! Fantastic beaches, great scenery and lovely pubs that make you feel really welcome. The food at the Kings Arms and the Rock is extremely lovely and very good. [Owners’ comment – We are sorry you did not like the mattress. We have always tried to provide quality furnishing and fittings for our guests. This is a high end Tempur-Posturepaedic mattress. The other double has a regular spring mattress. If we continue to get negative feedback, we will consider replacing the Tempur mattress next year.]

Lovely weather, a real treat. Even had some decent waves on the beach. The Rock’s food seems to have gone downhill a bit, so the Kings Arms it was. The walk to Putsborough from the cottage is amust at sunset. Lovely cottage and well equipped. One thing, it would be good to have a Hoover. Hope to be back again. [Owners’ comment – the Hoover is in the under-stairs cupboard by the French doors]

Our second visit to Whitehaven, another lovely stay. A very busy week of playing on Putsborough beach, swimming. A little tip … if the weather is bad and you need to entertain kids, go to the Unison Park swimming pool. It’s part of the hotel and about £2.50 each, quiet and you have full use of the sauna, steam etc. Average meal at the Rock, we should have gone to the Kings Arms. We will be back.

This was a wonderful place to spend a week relaxing and adventuring. The cottage was very well supplied (except we couldn’t find a mop!) Very well situated for a number of beaches. The house was prepared all Christmassy for us when we arrived which was great. It’s a fantastic house with great amenities. We thoroughly enjoyed the surrounding walks and beaches. There was some excitement early one morning with two fire engines attending an issue next door and also a knock at the door at 11:00 pm on the night before we left with the new guests arriving a day early! We went for meals at the Kings Arms on our last night and the food was excellent. We’d highly recommend it. All in all a great stay had by all.

A great midweek break. Very lucky with the weather which greatly facilitated beach and coastal walking, as well as surfing at Croyde. A fabulous cottage – well done on the renovation. We walked (the coastal path from Trentishoe Down to Hedon’s Mouth – really awe inspiring; and the Horner Woods and Dunkery Beacon – resplendent in their autumn colours), mountain biked (the Coleridge Way from Porlock to the amazing Hawcombe Head, single track descent) and of course surfed at Puts. My missus could wax lyrical about the décor, furnishings etc but what made it fantastic was having loads of room to park, good side access to lug boards / bikes / boots, an outside shower to peel away wetsuits, a summer house to store the bikes and a rear lobby for walking gear – oh, and wonderful beds to rest the aching muscles – Whitehaven rocks!

Perfect accommodation in Georgeham Left on Oct 8, 2017 for a stay in Sep 2017 Whitehaven is situated in an excellent location in Georgeham with it's own parking and two good pubs and a general store within walking distance. There are many walks and lovely beaches all close by. The cottage has been renovated to a very high standard with absolutely everything you could ask for with a real cosy feel, especially when the log burner was alight! We would thoroughly recommend staying at this lovely cottage. Stunning cottage with parking! This review is the subjective opinion of a TripAdvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

I have been lucky enough to stay at Whitehaven a couple of times and I always feel immediately at home. My parents (the owners) have created a cosy and relaxed space. We were very lucky to have great weather and spent a lot of time on the beach with our children. We also walked to Baggy Point and had a delicious tea and scones at the Sandleigh Café. For children, I recommend the local swings and swimming at Ruda.

A really lovely house. We stayed here for two weeks and didn’t want to leave. It is really cosy and I enjoyed staying here because it has brought our family closer together. Thank you.

A really beautiful house, perfect for us and our two boys. We have been coming to Croyde and Georgeham for the past 13 years and this is one of the best holidays. We always go to Putsborough Beach as it’s our favourite. Sadly we had an average meal at the Kings Arms. We will definitely be coming again.

What can we say that has not already been said. Thank you for sharing a truly wonderful house. It is clear that every little thing has been thought about, not only has it been considered, it is quality. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

This was a really lovely cottage and it's obviously well loved by it's owners as it had a feeling of being at home rather than some places which can feel impersonal. Small details (like a basket of toy cars that my son found almost instantly) make it not just a place to eat and sleep. The kitchen was brilliantly appointed, the only things needed were oven gloves and a tea cosy! The location of the cottage was beautiful in a week when we had blazing sunshine, driving rain and thick mists, it was wonderful in all of them. We all had a really lovely time and are planning our next trip!

Wow, what a fantastic house, in every regard. The owners have thought of everything. This is the best house we have stayed in with the exception of our own! Thoroughly impressed with the fixtures, fittings, finish and cleanliness. Will be recommending and staying again. Thanks

Beautiful home! Very comfortable, lovely location – couldn’t fault it. Will recommend. The log burner made the difference. We are going home relaxed!

We loved the cottage, very pretty village with two great pubs! The location is perfect, close to so many great beaches and country walks. The house is very comfortable, clean and well stocked with equipment (not always the case!). We were lucky the weather was fabulous, not a single day of rain. Highly recommend surfing (we were all beginners), fish and chips in Woolacombe and Braunton, walking to Putsborough beach, Lee, Lynmouth, Porlock Quay and Hartland Abbey (but only just worth the drive). Thank you for a wonderful week with the kids, Grandma and our lovely dog who enjoyed herself more than anyone!

Beautiful house, top class fittings and facilities, superb location. However our holiday was spoilt by a power failure on arrival (only restored on Saturday afternoon by Western Power) and lack of central heating until Monday afternoon by the heating engineer. The inconvenience of staying in and waiting for help was the first four days of our holiday wasted. However the beautiful house and good weather meant that we would return soon despite the problems. [Owner comment: We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. These issues, predominantly caused by a series of power outages as a result of work in the village on the electricity mains by Western Power Distribution. We understand the work is now complete. We appreciated your patience and trust the standby heaters (found under the stairs), the log fire and electric water immersion heaters overcame some of the inconvenience.]

Lovely well equipped and cosy cottage. Enjoyed sitting by the wood burner in the evenings. Good walks from the house to Putsborough beach and then back via Woolacombe and fields to Pickwell Barton.

It’s been a real pleasure to stay in a house where everything has been finished to the highest standard, with quality and comfort to the fore. Attention to detail and convenience have also been central to my impressions of the house – from the “hot” dog shower to the log store, to the great selection of high quality DVDs. Outside the house the beaches and walks have been stunning – loved Putsborough Sands, and the Croyde Stores and Kings Arms were welcome. Thank you for such a lovely escape.

We have so loved our stay in Whitehaven! You have created such a welcoming and gorgeous holiday space. Everything has been so thoroughly thought through. I’ve had such deep and nourishing sleeps in our very comfy bed, spent many evenings enjoying the toasty log fire and so enjoyed cooking lots of wonderful meals in the fantastic kitchen. The beaches nearby have given us beautiful walks (especially Putsborough) and our five month old baby and four legged pack member have loved it too. A huge thank you

What a lovely location. The house is just glorious and I wish we had thought to spend time baking more, but the lure of the walks, the warm fire and generous accommodation was just too strong. Great village – tried the Kings Arms, explored the church, chatted in the village store. Thank you

We felt we had come home the minute we stepped into the cottage – a real home away from home. This is the first time we have stayed in a holiday cottage as we only got our dog last year and what a perfect cottage to stay in. The surrounding area is fantastic and I enjoyed re-visiting Woolacombe as I stayed there as a child. Fantastic weather for mid-September and we celebrated our first anniversary at the Rock Inn although we later discovered the Kings Arms and loved it there too. Our dog enjoyed the walks over the fields and the secure garden is perfect for dogs and children alike. We will definitely be back !

We had a fantastic time in this lovely house. The fittings and furnishings have been first class. Woolcaombe, Ilfracombe, Croyde and Braunton Burrows were a great surprise. Fish and Chips at Squires, Braunton are fantastic. Good food thoroughly enjoyed at the Kings Arms. Children loved surfing less at Croyde and body boarding. We will be back! Thank you. We have all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Georgeham and this is attributed in no small way to Whitehaven. The cottage is lovely and cosy and contained all those little touches that are essential to make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. We explored the local area extensively and although the weather was not great every day, we had some great days during the week. The local pubs are great and the local beaches equally so. I am sure we will be back again in the future. Many thanks.

A wonderful place! Chutney the dog loves sniffing around and especially the garden! You thought of almost everything that’s supposed to be in a house. It’s close to places and little brother (L) loves playing with the dolly house, playing with the cars and pressing all the buttons, and also all the beds are really comfy, especially the bunk beds.

We've visited this part of North Devon many times during the last few years but never stayed in Georgeham. We've loved it. The location is great and the 2 local pubs are worth a visit! Whitehaven is a gorgeous house with all you can possibly need. Our boys have thoroughly enjoyed it - can't wait to return again!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this beautifully restored cottage. Whilst weather was mixed we managed to get to the best beach in the UK - Putsborough Sands on several days. Enjoyed the Rock Inn in the village. We will definitely return!
