Thatchers hideaway is a great place to stay, really close everything and some of the best beaches around. The house was well equipped and clean. We appreciated all the info on arrival and easy access into the house. Myself, partner and kids really liked the little walk way into the house, really made it feel hidden. The hot tub was really decent, especially on the long walking days. I completely recommend it and we will return.

Guest Book Entry – Croyde Thatchers Hideaway
"Outstanding stay from start to finish. We’ve stayed next door for the last three years, but this was a refreshing change — smarter, fresher, and exceeded our expectations in every way. The cottage was spotless, almost new in condition, and the facilities were excellent. Booking was easy, efficient, and the Choice Cottages team were friendly and knowledgeable throughout. We’ll definitely be back!" – Jon F., August 2025

We had a wonderful stay at Thatchers Hideaway! The cottage was incredibly cosy and matched the description on the website perfectly. It was spotlessly clean and offered fantastic facilities. We felt very comfortable throughout our stay. The condition of the cottage was good, and we appreciated the value for money it offered. We will definitely be returning in the future! A big thank you to the property manager for their quick and efficient responses to our queries. Their service truly went above and beyond. Highly recommend!

The little cottage was perfect for a few days away in a quiet location. Easily walkable to amenities and the beach. The log burner in the middle of winter was really cozy. ☺️

Andrew just left a new 5-star review of www.choice-cottages.co.uk:
We have always loved this area with Saunton and its fantastic stretch of sand and the rugged North Devon coastline. Croyde was my first choice to look for a place. We looked at a few that were available on the Choice holiday Cottage website and found Thatchers Hideaway and that describes this place quite well! Thatchers Hideaway is in fact one of 2 (I think) cottages all belonging to the same building, Thatchers being the one nearest to the pathway. Through the gate the path leads to the front door and a raised patio that catches the sun all day that also houses the hot tub. Through the front door you enter the open plan lounge kitchen/diner with a very high ceiling giving a very roomy feel. The kitchen is well equipped with a large fridge but very VERY small freezer. The oven is electric with a gas hob and a cupboard that houses the combi boiler that gives plenty of hot water. There are 2 large settees that are very comfy and a wall mounted large TV 36inch maybe? Also downstairs is a twin room and a bathroom with rain drop shower head over the large wide bath. From here the stairs lead up to the double room on a mezzanine deck that overlooks the downstairs area. Also here is a table and 2 comfy chairs under a sky light. The bed was very comfy. Leading off this room is a large walk in wardrobe/cupboard with extra blankets in a box and plenty of room to hang clothes. A door leads into the ensuite toilet. This place is ideal for a couple or a family of 4. We found it a quiet, cosy and very comfortable place to be for the week we were there. Choice holidays were helpful and our assigned manager, Steve, was just a text away and dealt with any questions quickly. For all you coffee lovers, there is a cafetiere and a Dolce Gusto machine. For tea lovers there were tea bags in the cupboard and 2 teapots! Excellent property, a great relaxing time away.

We stay in Croyde every year and this was one of our best stays yet. The location is just perfect, pub at the bottom of the road , minutes into town, 20 mins to beach and a really lovely track with beautiful countryside and a farm to walk the dog along right by the property. The patio is also a little sun trap.

Lovely little bolt hole to spend some time away in Croyde. The location is perfect…there’s a pub 100m away and a short walk to the centre of the village. We walked to the beach everyday (a leisurely 20 mins). Everything is very clean, and all the appliances are in good order…especially the boiler that delivers a great flow of hot water and, if you need it, provides the central heating very quickly. Patio area is a secluded sun trap that keeps sight of the sun till late in the day. Ample private parking for one large, or two small cars. Highly recommend the 5 mile round walk from the rental to Puttsborough/Baggy Point/ Croyde Bay.

Great Cottage, country pub just around the corner. Village and beach within easy walking distance. I would recommend the circular walk around baggy point to puttsbrough and back to the cottage via Coombs Lane.

Very impressed Netflix was included. A pity that there was not a shower upstairs as seems to be enough room for one, even electric shower. Impressed with amount of crockery, cutlery etc, Lovely that the bed that we were not using was still made to keep overall look of room nice. Really warm and comfortable, we had a great stay.

“Thatchers Cottage is a great location for visiting North Devon. Walking distance to Croyde Beach, pubs and shops with other local beaches a short drive away. The cottage had everything we needed for a weeks walking holiday. The hot tub was a great addition as it allowed us to unwind outside even in the cold January weather. We sat in it and watched the sunrise and sunset on a daily basis! Bliss!”

“We loved this cottage so much”
Reviewed on Trip Advisor August 11th, 2015
As we walked down the path and saw the cottage for the first time we were thrilled with our choice. Peaceful location in lovely Croyde but just 5 mins walk to nearest pub and 10 mins to shops, other pubs/restaurants and the fab ice cream shop.
We found the walk up the lane to Putsborough beach and although lane is muddy at times, you can paddle in the Ford at the end to clean your shoes or toes! Only 20 mins til on the beautiful beach. We explored as many coastal walks and pathways as we could find and the walk to Baggy Point was great. We had to keep dogs on lead at all times because of sheep or roads but Putsborough is a dog friendly beach so could run them there.
The hot tub was great especially as the weather was a bit unkind to us and if you sit in the tub at 9pm you can watch the bats flying - a wonderful memory. Good Wi-Fi too so teens happy!
Fab little cottage and only thing we'd ask for is for fresh towels mid-week as we had bath towels and beach towels drying/ airing inside due to rain.
A great find - clean, well equipped, cosy and quaint. We loved it.

“A perfect hideaway!”
Reviewed on Trip Advisor June 7th, 2015
We stayed at Thatchers Hideaway for three nights over a bank holiday weekend, and we couldn't have asked for a more ideal rental property.
The location is perfect, tucked out of the way to be nice and quiet but only a short stroll into the village (it's hard to find the first time so make sure you follow the instructions you get sent once you've booked). We stayed with our two dogs and I loved that we could step out of the front door and follow the lane up and onto countryside for a walk over to Saunton Sands. Also, just across the road is another bridleway which you can follow to walk to Putsborough Beach and Woolacombe.
The property was very clean and comfortable and kitted out with everything you need - salt, pepper, TV, Wifi, Playstation and games, even a few tea bags and some coffee. Only thing they could have done with is some washing up liquid and a few more toilet rolls (although I realise that these aren't always provided with a lot of rentals). Like a lot of the local rental properties there is a keysafe meaning you can turn up on the day of arrival at anytime.
The information pack that had been carefully put together by the property owners was really useful and had lots of local information (also quite amusing).
There was an open fire, which we didn't actually need to use because the central heating was nice and warm (so nice to stay somewhere where you're allowed to changed the thermostat!).

We had a lovely Weekend at Thatchers Hideaway. Minus 3 outside but we were lovely and warm, didn't get around to even lighting the Woodburner! We did have lovely meal in front the fire in the Manor Pub though.. Gorgeous day on Sunday, walked the dog through Combas lane to Putsborough, took just 20mins to get there. Coffee on the patio when we got back. We love the Cottage and sure you will too!
