The Silos at Welgelee Estate

A Unique French-Inspired Luxury Retreat in Constantia Valley

Welcome to The Silos at Welgelee Estate, one of the most distinctive places to stay in Cape Town's renowned Constantia Valley. Once working grain silos and now beautifully transformed into an elegant three-storey French country-style residence, this remarkable retreat combines historic character, modern comfort, and peaceful countryside living.

As the tallest building in the Constantia Valley — and easily its most unique address — The Silos offer a truly memorable experience. Surrounded by vineyards, paddocks, mature trees, landscaped gardens, and magnificent mountain views, the property provides a tranquil sanctuary while remaining just minutes from Constantia's celebrated wine estates, award-winning restaurants, shopping destinations, beaches, and Cape Town's major attractions.

The Accommodation

The Silos comfortably accommodate up to 8 guests in four spacious en-suite bedrooms, centred around generous living and dining spaces, a welcoming country-style kitchen, and beautifully designed interiors that reflect the property's French revival character.

Built within converted grain silos, the home's unique circular architecture creates a wonderful sense of space and light throughout. Arranged over three levels, the ground floor holds the open, sociable living spaces, while all four en-suite bedrooms are set upstairs for privacy and rest. Large windows frame views of the surrounding gardens, vineyards, paddocks, and mountains, while elegant furnishings, polished wood floors, floral fabrics, and antique pieces create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Upon entering, guests are welcomed into a beautiful circular entrance hall with soaring ceilings, elegant furnishings, and a sweeping staircase that curves gracefully through the centre of the silo. This striking architectural feature immediately showcases the unique character of the home and sets the tone for the experience that awaits throughout the property.

The spacious living areas have been designed for both relaxation and entertaining. Comfortable lounges and sitting areas provide plenty of space to gather with family and friends, enjoy a quiet afternoon with a book, or simply admire the surrounding countryside. Natural light floods the interiors, enhancing the sense of calm and connection to the beautiful landscape beyond.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

The four beautifully appointed en-suite bedrooms are among the home's most distinctive features. Set across the upper level and designed within the curved walls of the original silos, each room offers a unique sense of space, privacy, and charm.

Large windows and French doors frame views of the surrounding mountains, gardens, vineyards, and paddocks, while several bedrooms open onto private balconies where guests can enjoy morning coffee or evening sunsets overlooking the Constantia Valley.

Elegantly furnished in a relaxed French-country style, the bedrooms combine timeless character with modern comfort. Comfortable seating areas, antique-inspired furnishings, quality linens, and thoughtful details create peaceful retreats where guests can unwind after a day exploring Cape Town and the Winelands.

Each bedroom features:

  • Queen-size bed with quality linens
  • Private en-suite bathroom with both bath and shower
  • Air conditioning
  • Generous natural light and scenic views
  • Comfortable seating areas
  • Ample wardrobe and storage space

The spacious en-suite bathrooms are designed for comfort and relaxation, featuring large corner soaking baths, rainfall shower-overs, and bright windows that fill the rooms with natural light. Finished in a classic, understated style, they provide a tranquil space to unwind and refresh.

Kitchen & Dining

The spacious country-style kitchen is both practical and inviting, designed for relaxed holiday living and shared meals with family and friends. Featuring handcrafted finishes, open shelving, patterned tiled floors, and a charming French-country aesthetic, it combines rustic character with modern convenience.

Whether preparing a leisurely breakfast before exploring the Winelands or enjoying a home-cooked dinner after a day at the beach, the kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed for comfortable self-catering.

Kitchen features include:

  • Gas stove and oven
  • Dishwasher
  • Microwave
  • Refrigerator
  • Coffee maker and kettle
  • Toaster
  • Cookware, serving dishes, and utensils
  • Generous preparation and serving space

Adjacent to the kitchen is a spacious dining area designed for relaxed gatherings and memorable meals. Filled with natural light and framed by the curved architecture of the original silo, the room comfortably seats up to eight guests and provides the perfect setting for leisurely breakfasts, family lunches, and intimate evening dinners.

Whether enjoying a home-cooked meal, a private chef experience, or a bottle of Constantia's renowned wines, the dining area forms the heart of the home — a welcoming space where guests naturally gather to relax, connect, and create lasting memories.

The Terrace & Outdoor Living

One of the most memorable features of The Silos is the magnificent vine-covered terrace that stretches the full width of the home, creating an elegant outdoor living space that seamlessly connects the interiors with the surrounding gardens.

Shaded by a traditional pergola draped with bougainvillea and climbing vines, the terrace offers a series of inviting spaces for dining, entertaining, and relaxation throughout the day. Brick-paved pathways, established garden beds, and beautifully maintained lawns create a quintessential French-country atmosphere, while mature trees provide privacy and tranquillity.

Guests can enjoy leisurely breakfasts in the morning sunshine, long alfresco lunches overlooking the gardens, or sunset drinks as the estate settles into the peaceful rhythms of the evening. Comfortable seating areas, outdoor dining spaces, and garden benches provide plenty of places to unwind, whether gathering with family and friends or simply enjoying a quiet moment with a book and a glass of wine.

As dusk falls, the terrace becomes particularly enchanting. Soft lighting beneath the pergola creates a warm and inviting atmosphere for outdoor dining and conversation, while the surrounding gardens take on a magical quality beneath the evening sky.

The terrace overlooks beautifully landscaped lawns and gardens, offering a secure outdoor space for children to play and ample room for guests to relax and enjoy the estate's peaceful surroundings.

Set on the historic Welgelee Estate, guests enjoy the peaceful charm of rural living while remaining within easy reach of Cape Town's most popular attractions. The surrounding valley is home to some of South Africa's most celebrated wine estates, including Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting, Groot Constantia, Steenberg, and Constantia Uitsig. Wine tasting, cellar tours, fine dining, and picnics among the vineyards are all just minutes away. The area is equally well known for its outstanding restaurants, artisanal food producers, boutique cafés, and farm shops, making it a favourite destination for food and wine enthusiasts.

For those seeking outdoor activities, Constantia offers excellent golf courses, mountain biking routes, hiking trails, horse riding facilities, and access to the nearby Table Mountain National Park. The dramatic mountain backdrop creates a sense of seclusion and tranquillity, while the valley's lush greenery and expansive open spaces make it one of the most picturesque areas in the Western Cape.

It is an incredibly relaxing and beautiful spot with comfortable, light-filled rooms, a fantastic kitchen for cooking, and a stunning terrace for morning coffees, afternoon reading and al fresco dinners with friends — all conveniently located a short drive from shops and restaurants. "We had a wonderful stay. The host was very accommodating even before we arrived, as I had a few things delivered the day before check-in. The accommodation is equipped with everything you could need and is so spacious. The views from the bedrooms are lovely, and the veranda was such a beautiful space to relax and enjoy the surroundings and garden. Walking straight out onto a green belt was such a bonus. "A highly unique and special destination, situated on the Constantia green belt. The setting amongst the stables and farm animals was a delight for young and old — and the two-legged goat is legendary. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished and very comfortable. Staying in converted silos lived up to all expectations. Anna's hosting was flawless, caring and considerate, and the extras (cleaning and laundry service, tea, coffee, champagne and much more) were very thoughtful and much appreciated. Highly recommended — we will be back."
