The Silos at Welgelee Estate
A Unique French-Inspired Luxury Retreat in Constantia Valley
Welcome to The Silos at Welgelee Estate, one of the most distinctive places to stay in Cape Town's renowned Constantia Valley. Once working grain silos, this remarkable building has been thoughtfully transformed into an elegant three-storey French country-style residence where historic character blends effortlessly with modern comfort and peaceful countryside living.
As the tallest and most unique accommodation in the valley, The Silos offer an unforgettable stay surrounded by vineyards, paddocks, mature trees, landscaped gardens and magnificent mountain views. Despite its tranquil setting, the estate is only minutes from Constantia's celebrated wine estates, award-winning restaurants, boutique shopping, beautiful beaches and Cape Town's major attractions.
The Accommodation
The Silos comfortably accommodate up to eight guests in four spacious en-suite bedrooms, complemented by generous living and dining spaces, a welcoming country-style kitchen and beautifully curated interiors that celebrate the property's French revival heritage.
Built within converted grain silos, the home's distinctive circular architecture creates an exceptional sense of space, light and character throughout. Large windows frame uninterrupted views of the surrounding gardens, vineyards, paddocks and mountains, while polished wooden floors, elegant furnishings, floral fabrics and carefully selected antique pieces create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Guests enter through a beautiful circular entrance hall with soaring ceilings, refined furnishings and a sweeping staircase that curves gracefully through the heart of the home. This striking architectural feature immediately showcases the property's unique design and sets the tone for the experience that unfolds throughout the residence.
The spacious living areas have been thoughtfully designed for both relaxation and entertaining. Comfortable lounges and intimate sitting areas provide plenty of space to gather with family and friends, enjoy a quiet afternoon with a book or simply admire the surrounding countryside. Flooded with natural light, these inviting spaces create a wonderful sense of calm while maintaining a close connection with the landscape beyond.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
The four beautifully appointed en-suite bedrooms are among the home's most distinctive features. Built within the curved walls of the original silos, each room offers its own unique character while providing a wonderful sense of privacy and comfort.
Large windows and French doors frame picturesque views of the surrounding mountains, gardens, vineyards and paddocks. Several bedrooms open onto private balconies, creating the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee or watch the sun set over the Constantia Valley.
Elegantly furnished in a relaxed French country style, each bedroom combines timeless charm with modern comforts. Comfortable seating areas, antique-inspired furnishings, premium linens and thoughtful finishing touches create peaceful retreats where guests can unwind after a day exploring Cape Town and the Winelands.
Every bedroom features a queen-size bed with quality linens, a private en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, generous natural light, scenic views, a comfortable seating area and ample wardrobe space.
The spacious en-suite bathrooms have been designed for comfort and relaxation, featuring large corner soaking baths, rainfall shower-overs and bright windows that fill each room with natural light. Finished in a timeless, understated style, they provide the perfect space to relax and refresh.
Kitchen & Dining
The spacious country-style kitchen is both practical and welcoming, designed for relaxed holiday living and memorable meals shared with family and friends. Handcrafted finishes, open shelving, patterned tiled floors and charming French country details create a space that is as beautiful as it is functional.
Whether preparing a leisurely breakfast before exploring the Winelands or enjoying a home-cooked dinner after a day at the beach, the fully equipped kitchen provides everything needed for effortless self-catering, including an induction stove and oven, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, kettle, toaster and a full range of cookware, serving dishes and utensils, together with generous preparation space.
Adjacent to the kitchen, the spacious dining area forms the heart of the home. Filled with natural light and framed by the original curved silo architecture, it comfortably seats up to eight guests and provides the perfect setting for leisurely breakfasts, family lunches, intimate evening dinners or a private chef experience accompanied by Constantia's renowned wines.
The Terrace & Outdoor Living
One of the most memorable features of The Silos is the magnificent vine-covered terrace that stretches across the full width of the home, creating an elegant outdoor living space that connects seamlessly with the surrounding gardens.
Sheltered beneath a traditional pergola draped with climbing vines and flowering plants, the terrace offers a variety of inviting spaces for dining, entertaining and relaxation throughout the day. Brick-paved pathways, established garden beds, beautifully maintained lawns and mature trees combine to create an authentic French country atmosphere while providing privacy and tranquillity.
Guests can enjoy leisurely breakfasts in the morning sunshine, long alfresco lunches overlooking the gardens or sunset drinks as the estate settles into the peaceful rhythm of the evening. Comfortable seating areas, outdoor dining spaces and garden benches offer plenty of places to unwind, whether spending time with loved ones or simply relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine.
As dusk falls, the terrace becomes especially enchanting. Soft lighting beneath the pergola creates a warm, inviting ambience for outdoor dining, while the surrounding gardens take on a magical quality beneath the evening sky.
The terrace overlooks beautifully landscaped lawns and gardens, providing a secure outdoor space for children to play and plenty of room for guests to enjoy the estate's peaceful surroundings.
