Welcome to Chuggs Cottage, a characterful 2-bedroom thatched retreat, brimming with personality and perfect for a peaceful coastal break. Set within its own delightful garden sanctuary – complete with a fire pit, BBQ, and the option to hire a traditional cedar hot tub – this charming property is ideal for winding down after a day of exploring North Devon’s stunning coastline.
Conveniently located just a short stroll from the heart of Croyde, Chuggs Cottage offers families the chance to experience a slice of traditional village life, with a coastal twist. Once part of the original 18th-century Chuggs Farm, the cottage has been lovingly restored, blending rustic features with modern comforts to create a truly memorable stay.
From low beams and solid wood doors to a beautiful stone fireplace with an original bread oven, driftwood handrails, and a state-of-the-art electric AGA, every element has been thoughtfully chosen. The addition of hand-painted murals by local artist Steve P.P. and carefully curated coastal décor only enhance the atmosphere of laid-back seaside charm.
Chuggs Cottage isn’t just a place to stay – it’s an experience, where comfort meets character and history gently lingers in every detail.
The open-plan living/dining space is both welcoming and versatile, offering plenty of seating and a dining area for up to five guests. A smart TV and selection of games provide entertainment, while the impressive stone fireplace – complete with feature log burner (not in use) and original bread oven – serves as a lovely focal point for cosy evenings in.
The kitchen has been carefully designed with both form and function in mind. Featuring a modern electric Total Control AGA, precision hot plates, a sleek Smeg fridge/freezer, and a dishwasher, you’ll find everything you need for a seamless cooking experience. A full range of high-quality pots and pans invites you to cook at your leisure, whether whipping up a light breakfast or a family dinner.
Follow the charming driftwood handrail upstairs to find two inviting bedrooms:
Master Bedroom: Features a striking vaulted ceiling and a super king-size bed for a restful night’s sleep. There’s also a small pull-out bed, perfect for a child, and a TV for added comfort.
Bunk Bedroom: Cosy and perfectly suited for younger guests, this room includes its own TV and DVD player, creating a relaxed and personal space for children to unwind.
Ground Floor: Practical shower and utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer.
First Floor: Family bathroom with a shower-over-bath arrangement.
Step outside into a beautifully landscaped garden designed for year-round enjoyment.
Parking: Driveway parking for two cars, accessed via two gates.
Outdoor Shower: Hot/cold shower ideal for rinsing off sandy feet or wetsuits.
Rear Garden: A private and tranquil spot with a spacious decked area, sunken Cedar Wood barrel hot tub (available for hire at £195 per week), and an undercover oil drum BBQ with chimney, perfect for all-weather alfresco dining.
Fire Pit: An open-air Kadai bowl, ideal for marshmallow toasting or simply enjoying the evening warmth.
Extras: Handcrafted solid wood garden furniture, a washing line with pegs, and plenty of thoughtful touches throughout.
Please note: If you’ve opted for hot tub hire, it is emptied, cleaned, and refilled before arrival. Due to the volume of water, it may take time to reach its full temperature.
Complimentary Wi-Fi, bed linen, and towels (including bath, hand, and hot tub) included.
Just a 15-minute walk to the beach and only 2 minutes to the village centre.
Sorry, no pets allowed.
Hot tub hire: £195 per week/short break (optional).
As a period property, please be aware of low beams, steep/narrow stairs, and a display of vintage surfboards (not for use) that may be a hazard to taller guests or little ones.
A stair gate is fitted at the top of the stairs, and a door at the bottom provides extra reassurance.
Bedroom 1: Super king-size bed plus a small child’s pull-out bed (sleeps 3 – first floor)
Bedroom 2: Bunk beds (sleeps 2 – first floor)
If you’re seeking a cosy yet stylish coastal escape with bags of character, Chuggs Cottage offers the perfect balance of old-world charm and modern convenience. An ideal choice for families looking to immerse themselves in the magic of Croyde, all from the comfort of a beautifully kept home-from-home.
