Lovely location and property. We loved that the tide comes right up to the back of the property.
Although there is no dedicated parking there is ample local street parking and car parking.
Appledore is a great place to eat and drink and a great base to explore north Devon.
The property is very homely and cosy.
Be aware that you need pound coins for the electric meter. Not a problem as a pound lasts several days if you're out a lot.

Fantastic cottage in a great location in Appledore. Very close to the car park and (more importantly) to the excellent Beaver Inn.
Couldn't be closer to the sea, the water is against the walls at high tide. Great views from the living room and kitchen.
We visited as a family with two children, the space was just right for a week

Gannets Nest is a cute, comfortable, quirky cottage with incredible views over the estuary.
Appledore has a relaxed, friendly vibe with everything you need on the doorstep.
Great pubs and cafes! An amazing location for exploring all that North Devon has to offer.
Perfect for a family get away. We really didn’t want to leave!

My husband and myself spent another chilled out week at Gannets’s Nest fishermen cottage after finding this little gem last year. Again we were not disappointed with this place. Right on the estuary so views are ever changing with the lovely sounds of the sea. H and B are wonderful hosts and answered any queries we had promptly (via text/phone) with a friendly no problem attitude. Have recommended the cottage to friends and family looking for a self catering base in North Devon with a super village atmosphere.

Fab little cottage to stay in. It’s just been refurbished so everything is new and clean. You can tell it’s well looked after unlike some of the other cottages we’ve stayed in... will definitely be coming again!! Closest to the pebble beach and play park!

I stayed at Gannets Nest for a week this July and had the perfect seaside getaway- relaxing, fun with all the family and everything from surfing to cycling and inbetween! The cottage is situated in Irsha street- when the sun is shining it's a beautiful spectrum of colour and has so much character! Overlooking the estuary, the cottage is set over three floors with two outside areas, a patio/terrace which is perfect for dining outside and a balcony where I loved sitting in the sun with a good book! The rooms are spacious and I stayed in the twin room which had comfortable bedding and plug sockets near the bed for charging phones etc. It was nice to have an additional loo on the top floor which was easily accessible. The master bedroom had a beautiful view out over the coast also! The kitchen was well equipped and nicely decorated with lots of colour- it had all the amenities i needed and was a fun space to entertain in! I particularly loved having the outside table to have lunch overlooking the estuary. Parking is easily accessible within walking distance from the cottage, and the wifi connection was reliable and I experienced no problems. If using public transport, Appledore is well connected and there are regular buses into neighbouring towns Bideford and Barnstaple, meaning day trips were easy to plan! Westward Ho!, a five minute drive away was also amazing for beach fun and surfing! It is easy to wander into the village where you'll find a few cafes, John's, a local convenience store and deli, and the beautiful quay front with fish and chip shops and ice creams available to enjoy. Appledore is so beautiful and enjoys views over to Instow, another coastal village. All in all, I couldn't reccomend staying at Gannets Nest more! Beautiful views, full of character and just moments away from the quay front, it makes for the perfect seaside escape and I made memories I'll never forget!

Really loved our stay at Gannets Nest, a beautiful location right on the sea front with amazing views and lots of lovely places to visit. The village has such a lovely feel made even better by the homely atmosphere of the house. Really felt like a second home, a holiday I will never forget and I cannot wait to return.

Absolutely loved staying at Gannets Nest! You can’t beat the location and most importantly the sea views, the balcony was amazing to sit out and have breakfast, watching the waves. The house is incredibly well kept and very welcoming, I cannot say a bad word about it.

Perfect Retreat
My husband and myself stayed at Gannets Nest in April this year for 1 week. Not knowing much about Appledore itself beforehand we didn’t know what to expect. We were so impressed with the 3 story cottage itself and it’s fabulous location, right on the estuary. Very peaceful, beautifully kept and well equipped. We frequented the local Pub, The Beaver which we found not only friendly but served great food and only 2 minutes walk from the cottage. There are a fair few other local eateries too which we discovered and also enjoyed. Super spot to discover North Devon. Places we went to were, Westward Ho, Woolacombe, Torrington, Hartland Point & Quay, National Trust (Arlington) & Clovelly.

Quirky and delightful cottage with simply stunning views! Wonderful week stay ...cottage is well equipped..though the landing light is still not working😉 Spent happy hours on the balcony deck. My Hubby treated the cutlery draw to a bottle opener 🍻 would definitely return & Appledore is gorgeous!

This beautiful cottage stole our hearts...
It would appear that previous comments have been taken into consideration and even the weather was orchestrated for our stay! A week of glorious sunshine, an inviting cottage with a balcony on the estuary, the local Inn a stroll away. Day One – it was at this very Inn that we encountered the builder from next door and after much liquid refreshment agreed that singing and bashing would not commence until later in the mornings. The notes in each of the rooms are very useful and we settled into our holiday cottage very quickly. Before travelling we spoke with Maggie the Property Manager who lives a few streets away and is on hand to assist with wi-fi, recycling and light bulbs. In fact, we left a charger, Maggie called us and came to the Inn to return it (we didn’t leave Appledore immediately). It was a fabulous week and we are longing to be at Gannets Nest watching the boats, walking the beach, eating on the balcony, making friends.

This teeny weeny cottage is over three floors and has a fabulous location with views over the river estuary to Instow! Its an easy walk to the village center and two local pubs who serve good pub grub. There is parking nearby.

"A stunning little cottage right near the charming fun of Appledore. Beautiful views of the estuary. We had a wonderful time, and can thoroughly recommend this cottage. Parking was about 50m away in the massive car park, and only cost £16 for the week."

“Stunning Cottage”
Reviewed on Trip Advisor September 25th, 2015
Stayed at this fabulous cottage for a week when visiting Appledore. The cottage is situated on Irsha Street, overlooking the river estuary and having stunning views of the river and the village.
The cottage is well equipped, washing machine, dishwasher etc. and very comfortable. There are a lot of stairs so may not be good for people with mobility problems. The bathroom is downstairs from the sitting room and the bedrooms are accessed by another staircase. We found it to be very clean when we arrived and it was nice to find coffee and tea and milk in the fridge. We were tempted to light the little wood burning stove but it never got quite cold enough.
The view from the bedroom at the back of the house is breathtaking

“Beautiful place”

We stayed in Gannets Nest in mid june and it was everything we had hoped it would be. We had breakfast on the balcony everyday and became used to the comings and goings of the boats with the tide. (And the very noisy marines on their hovercraft!) The back bedroom overlooks the sea and it was so special waking up to the tide splashing under the window. The cottage was as described with the added bonus of an extra loo. Kitchen was well equiped and the bathroom was large and clean. Irsha street is lovely and we pretty much viewed the excellent Beaver Inn just along the road as our local. You can park all week in the carpark in Appledore for £16 and you can actually see your car from the balcony! Would recommend Hartland for views, Northam Burrows to Westward Ho! for a walk, Croyde for beach and Appledore for lovely locals, great icecream and nice shops
