It?s The Big One! The 50th Anniversary one! The one you just have to visit!

by Admin16. July 2016 10:07

The list under main attractions for The North Devon Show on Wednesday 3rd August is far too big to replicate in its entirety, so you will just have to check it out for yourself, but don’t miss Big Pete and the Grim Reaper, or the M.A.D Team on their mountain bikes. With displays from hounds, ducks, horses, livestock, a choir and carriages, that’s several show arenas filled. Add the Alpaca Village, rural skills, country pursuits, vintage tractors and we haven’t even got to all the things you can taste and/or buy, it’s going to be a busy day. Wear comfortable shoes if you want to see it all, and wellies are good if there has been lots of that wet stuff that never comes to Devon in the summer!

Set to the music score of Bizet?s carmen and loosely based on the story, it?s the Car Man!

by Admin15. July 2016 10:07

The familiar 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory becomes a greasy garage-diner in 1960s America where the dreams and passions of a small-town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome stranger. Fueled by heat and desire, the inhabitants are driven into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge. Phew! After you’ve seen this screening of Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man at the Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe in Thursday 21st July you’ll need to head back to your luxury Choice holiday home for some R&R.

A village with two names, lots of history and one great agricultural show

by Admin14. July 2016 10:16

Near Clovelly you may see signs for Woolfardisworthy, but no one says it like that anymore, it’s now called Woolsery. Very confusing. ‘Woolsery’ is merely the dialect contraction of ‘Woolfardisworthy’, itself an Anglicisation of the Saxon ‘Wulfheard’s homestead’, denoting the fact that the village was probably originally founded in 680 when the Saxon Abbot Wulfheard of Crediton was granted two manors – this village, and a smaller one with the same name near Crediton. Back to the Woolsery Agricultural Show – nearly 125 years old – there’s lots of displays, livestock to see, crafts and food outlets and loads of other things to do. Allow the whole day on Monday 25th July – for one day only.

Fancy a Pimms or Sangria? Taste your way through the gin menu? Add Endless Tapas too

by Admin13. July 2016 10:17

The Terrace Tapas Bar in Ilfracombe is one of my family’s favourite dining places. Family run, it has a relaxed friendly atmosphere and is just the place to catch up on all the news and chat while your endless tapas is served to the table. There is a varied menu for you to choose from with a set price for much of the menu, just order more when you are ready. Good value and good fun, especially for a larger group. The Gin Y Tonica menu is mouth-watering. How many delicious gin drinks is it possible to make? – this list is well worth looking at (and tasting). Add cocktails and a Toblerone fondue and I think I’ve gone to heaven!

All Aboard the MS Oldenburg for an evening Cruise to raise money for charity

by Admin11. July 2016 10:07

Sail from Bideford Quay on the MS Oldenburg for a three hour evening cruise towards Clovelly (If the weather is less good, the cruise will tour the lower reaches of the Taw and Torridge Estuary, home to Tarka the Otter). This private charter  on 22nd July will raise money for the Addington Fund (providing homes and support for farming families). A stunning coastline for an evening cruise, bar and refreshments available on board and a chance to enjoy the historic ship, this is one not to be missed.
