Old means Old in South Molton! The Fayre started in the 12th Century & has a royal charter

by Admin31. May 2016 09:30

A bit of history for you: The South Molton Olde English Fayre dates back to the 12th Century when Lord of the Manor Nicholas Fitz Martyn obtained a charter to hold a fair. Since that date, the Fayre has continued through the centuries being confirmed by Royal Charter in 1590 by Queen Elizabeth I that stated a Fayre can be held annually during the months of June and August. Charles II proclaimed a further Charter for the Fayre in 1684. Now for the good bit – it’s still going strong and if you visit this charming market town from 9th – 13th June you too can go to the Fayre. Enjoy the traditional floral dance!

Fantastic fun free family activity! Cycle the Tarka Trail through North Devo

by Admin29. May 2016 09:30

There's no need to bike all 30 miles of the traffic-free Tarka Trail through the backdrop to Henry Williamson's classic story; many families just plump for the six miles from Braunton to Barnstaple. Along this flat section you can Tarka-hunt along the banks of the Taw, spot wildfowl on the mudflats and keep interest piqued with gems from the downloadable audio guide. Take a picnic, have lunch at The Braunton Inn, overlooking the estuary, or try one of the many cafes in Barnstaple. If you’re feeling more active carry on, across the new bridge, to Fremington Quay for a wonderful locally sourced lunch and then cycle back. It’s all easy cycling on a hard surface and the only hill is to get over the bridge! There’s places to hire bikes at Braunton, Barnstaple Station and Fremington Quay.

Take a look in the mirror ? when did that person last enjoy a music festival?

by Admin28. May 2016 09:30

After a sell-out first year, North Devon's very own tribute music festival returns to Barnstaple Rugby Club this summer on Saturday 4th June. With a new name and fantastic line-up in two big top tents this is the summer event not to be missed. Mirror Festival 2016 will pay tribute to the U2, Fleetwood Mac, Coldplay and the Foo Fighters. In addition to performances from the UK's finest tribute acts, you'll be able to watch the most amazing local bands that North Devon has to offer. Make sure you have your Choice Cottage booked so you can enjoy a week of fun and sun and spend a day at the festival.

Ilfracombe?s Beach is very different from sandy Woolacombe, but tunnels make is special

by Admin27. May 2016 09:30

Paying to get on to a beach might sound outrageous, but the nominal entrance fee to Tunnels Beach, a private cove and Victorian tidal pool, is worth it. The tunnels – carved to enable beach access from town when seawater bathing was in vogue – are lined with mounted archives, memorabilia and information panels that whisk you back to the pools' opening in 1823. Once on the dark-sand beach, children can explore smugglers' caves, poke around rock pools and leap into the remaining tidal pool (once there were three). It's a unique beach trip and easy to get to with a pushchair and beach paraphernalia and the facilities are flawless, with shop, family restaurant, play hut and award-winning loos!

Advance notice of a chance to see living history. Talk to enthusiasts & have a great day

by Admin26. May 2016 09:30

I have found that there are somethings that I always seem to miss when searching for upcoming events in North Devon and I think it’s because their internet presence is not high. I know many of you are reading this before your holiday in North Devon and the internet may be all you have to search, so here is advance notice of one our best local events – South Molton’s Vintage Rally. It a spectacular event with lots of vintage vehicles, stalls, and activities for all the family. It takes place at Combesland Cross on 4th and 5th of June. It’s one that my family go back to year after year. Don’t miss it.

Fancy some intergalactic travel starting off in North Devon? Time to go cosmic!

by Admin25. May 2016 09:30

There’s something out of the world happening in North Devon this half term. First stop – The Milky Way. There you will find a Cosmic Typhoon and Cosmic Caterpillar, Clone Zone, Time Zone (with Little Stars for the younger ones to visit). Finish up with Jumping Jupiters and Galaxy Showtime. The only thing I’m not sure of, is which planet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are going to have come from when they drop in on Sunday 29th May. Why not ask them when you visit?
