A dog friendly pub in wonderful countryside, surrounded by breath-taking walks

by Admin29. February 2016 10:47

The Hunter’s Inn has long been one of my favourite pubs. The location has something for everyone. There are level hard-surface walks through Heddon Valley, down to the beach at Heddon’s Mouth suitable for those will lower mobility or pushchairs, as well as anyone just wanting a shorter walk. Then there’s the Coast path to the East, with a lovely circular walk to Woody Bay. Or head steeply uphill on the Coast Path to the West, equally breath taking and well worth the climb. Return along Ladies Mile to enjoy a hot meal and a pint or two at the Hunter’s Inn. What a day out!

North Devon & Exmoor Walking Festival - time to find new friends and try new walks

by Admin28. February 2016 10:42

The statistics for the North Devon & Exmoor Walking Festival are impressive – 16 years, 792 guided walks, 4572 people taking part, 9055 walks completed. The only things it doesn’t tell me is how many friendships have been formed, how many relationships started, how many marriages, births….Book yourself a stay in North Devon  and check out the walks, Book places on the ones that suit you and enjoy walking in good company, with knowledgeable guides and take a break from your hectic normal life.

Waves, waves and more waves, each one potentially bigger and better than the last!

by Admin27. February 2016 10:42

Get your surfboard, don your wetsuit (winter weight, the sea is cold) and head out to sea. This time of year is only for the serious surfer, so if you’re more of a summer water baby, then now is the time to plan your visit. Give yourself time to save the money, get the right kit, and maybe get a bit fitter so you can ride the waves for longer. Planning always helps make sure you give yourself the best chance to enjoy those few precious days of holiday. (1) choose your self catering holiday accommodationright next to the beach in the surfers paradise of Croyde, (2) check the surfboard for scratches and damage and polish it up ready for action (3) save some money for the après surf (I recommend The Thatch) (4) who will you choose to go with you? Mates for some fun or partner for some romance or are you the lucky one whose other half is both?

Boasting vehicles for every occasion - cradle to grave, National Carriage Museum has it all

by Admin26. February 2016 10:42

National Trust property Arlington Court is also home of the National Carriage Museum. They boast to have a vehicle for every occasion – cradle is easy, surely that is a pram, but a hearse as well? I know that have the Speaker’s State Coachon loan (a glorious gilded carriage with over 300 years of history). Visit during the weekends this spring (weekday opening starts at Easter) and see the horses used to pull the carriages, (even take a ride on some days) and imagine your dog pulling the dog cart,

Your eye will be drawn to the huge long ochre coloured house nestled under the Castle

by Admin25. February 2016 10:24

Castle Hill Gardens are open all year and early Spring is one of the best times of year to enjoy woodland gardens. There can be few better woodland Gardens than Castle Hill, (voted in the top 10 in Jim Gardiner’s list last year). Although the house isn’t open at this time of year, the dog friendly gardens are ready for your visit, walk in the formal parkland, the 18 acres of woodland gardens and enjoy the views from the castle on the hill. While you are thinking about visiting have a look at the video– it certainly makes me want to visit.

Only five weeks until the kids are on holiday AGAIN! Where will you spend your Easter?

by Admin24. February 2016 10:24

Did you decide to stay at home for half term? I bet you are having a lovely time with riotous kids demanding ever more things to do, despite the cold wet weather or, even worse, them sitting playing on computers and iPads, while you feel guilty for not providing better entertainment. Easter can be different. It may not be very long away and many of the properties are already booked for the school break, but some are available and have reduced prices. Get to Devon and enjoy all the free activities on the beach and out walking or cycling, or head for the many indoor play zones and other activities, all newly refreshed for the start of the season.
