Five more ways to get afloat in North Devon. Big boats, little boats, fast boats!

6.Catch the MS Oldenburg to Lundy for the day. Definitely a big boat and leaves from Ilfracombe or Bideford. Lunch on Lundy.
7.Take a tour of Clovelly Harbour on the Neptune. See this historic village, rising steeply up the hill from the sea.
8.Hit the secret offshore surf breaks in the catamaran Hecate. This is a serious boat – head out to sea, next stop Ireland, if you want!
9.Pretend to be a lobster potter for the day in the Silver Spirit. Then head for one of North  Devon’s many excellent restaurants for a lobster dinner
10.Jet Ski Safari from Watermouth Bay, near Ilfracombe. Definitely one for the adrenaline rush seekers!

Ideas to get afloat in North Devon (sea, estuary or river) in a boat. Five more tomorrow!

  1. 1.Swim with Seals near Lundy from the Jessica Hettie. Take the boat to the UK’s best known marine reserve and snorkel or dive with friendly seals
  2. 2.Ride in the restored lifeboat Hampshire Rose, out of Ilfracombe. Now in private ownership you can head out from picturesque Ilfracombe Harbour
  3. 3.Take the ferry from Appledore to Instow and back. Excellent eating places on both sides of the estuary
  4. 4.Potter gently up the River Torridge on the Cheeky Monkey or Fenderto see a nature-filled, peaceful side of Devon.
  5. 5.See the highest sea cliffs in England from the Ilfracombe Princess. You can also see the coastline of Exmoor, waterfalls, and old iron ore mines.

It?s time the results of what the birds and beasts do ? babies due at Exmoor Zoo!

It’s time the results of what the birds and beasts do – babies due at Exmoor Zoo!
Every year Exmoor zoo get high visitor acclaim and I know why. They have creative exciting animal enclosures (expect to see monkeys running across the paths in runs heading for the next section of their cage), just don’t stand too long underneath in case…. There are plenty of chances to see, hold, feel and learn about the mammals and reptiles (and arachnids!). With a good café, shop and wide range of inmates (can you call zoo animals that?), it’s a great place to visit, expect to spend a full day though. There are so many things to see. This is especially a day out for those that like felines of all sizes and small monkeys and lemurs.

Wonderful coffee & banoffee pie to die for & they do main meals too ? Blue Groove, Croyde

Wonderful coffee & banoffee pie to die for & they do main meals too – Blue Groove, Croyde
With locally sourced homemade food that allows you to experience tastes from around the world (Greek Meze, Spanish Tapas, Thai Chicken, Peking Duck, Mexican Pancakes and fresh fish from Devon) and a fabulous selection of cakes and puddings, it’s lucky that there is plenty of seating – its sure to be packed now the holiday season has started. Even better they let dogs join you in the conservatory and there is a great outdoor play area for the children. The Blue Groove is right in the heart of Croyde, drop in for a visit and expect to be back again and again.

For ladies that walk, girls that hike, women that stroll, females that stride - Nightwalk!

For ladies that walk, girls that hike, women that stroll, females that stride - Nightwalk!
Saturday 16th May is this year’s big day (night) for you to get out after dark and have a lovely walk in beautiful North Devon countryside – but only if you are female. Nightwalk is for women (girls are allowed to join in this year). You can choose a route along the Tarka Trail or on Saunton Sands, from 3 to 18 miles. The routes are well marshalled and hundreds of others ladies will be putting on their walking shoes for a girls night out with a difference and raising money for North Devon Hospice. When did you last walk in the countryside at night?

Woolacombe Beach ? Best in Britain, No4 in Europe and No13 in THE WORLD!

Woolacombe Beach – Best in Britain, No4 in Europe and No13 in THE WORLD!
Endless clean sand (3 miles!), fantastic waves (perfect for surfers and body boarders), spectacular scenery (and walking), clean water, safe for all ages, with three lifeguarded areas. What more can I say? No wonder Woolacombe Beach has been voted best beach in Britain on Trip Advisor (Feb 2015), Woolacombe itself holds the England for Excellence Gold Award for the best family resort. Spend the day on the beach with the whole family (there is an area that is dog free, but dogs are welcome on the majority of the beach) and then head into the village (right next to the beach) for fresh fish and chips. A perfect day out, the only problem is that the accommodation gets booked up very quickly. Have a look now to see if there are any Choice Cottages left for this summer that take your fancy.

Keep your pre-school age children happy and enjoy your meal in a child friendly pub

by Admin21. April 2015 10:00

There’s lots of good places to eat in North Devon with child friendly menus, but even better (for you and the kids) are the ones that have play areas, where you can enjoy a meal and a drink, whilst keeping an eye on their happy play. Here are a couple of suggestions that have indoor play areas for the younger children, just in case the sun doesn’t shine every day of your holiday. The Waterfront Inn in Westward Ho! and Ye Olde Globe in Ilfracombe. Of course just about all the local attractions (The Big Sheep, The Milky Way, Quince Honey Farm and many others) have play areas and places to eat, so you can all be happy every day!
