Do you fancy a piggy back on a gentle giant as it ambles across Dartmoor?

by Admin30. March 2015 10:10

Do you fancy a piggy back on a gentle giant as it ambles across Dartmoor? These giants are easy to please and definitely enjoy their work!

I’m not quite sure of the definition of a piggy back, but what I’m talking about is really horseback, but on these friendly, but enormous Clydesdale horses, it will probably feel as safe as riding a sofa! You can take a full or half day ride on Dartmoor in a group, all riding these beautiful, friendly, calm, strong, but sure footed monsters. The rides are led by Tim Ancrum and Aileen Ware from Brympts Farm, near Dartmeet. Find out more and book your ride with Adventure Clydesdale. Somehow, looking at the photos, these horses look totally at home on Dartmoor, although they are nothing like the much smaller native Dartmoor ponies you are likely to meet on your ride.

Hang On to your hats – its time for a dynamite show – get onto your feet and dance in the aisles! It’s Lets Hang On at The QueensIf you rented the same lovely holiday home last year and then left it too late to get your tickets to Let's Hang On, you now have a 2nd chance. But don’t miss out twice. Tickets are selling like hot cakes! Its time to take a brilliant trip through the most successful bands of all time. See it at The Queen’s Theatre on Saturday April 4th. Competition ? win a pair of tickets to the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink

by Admin28. March 2015 10:10

Competition – win a pair of tickets to the Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink – be quick entries close on 1st April

Devon Life has a great completion this month. To enter just email info@exeterfoodanddrinkfestival.co.uk and answer the question ‘Which chef founded the Exeter Food Festival?’ add your name postcode and daytime telephone number and the prize may be yours. If not you can still go, but you’ll just have to buy your tickets. There’s far too much for me to tell you about here, but there are after dark party nights, meet the chef, demonstrations, children’s fun areas, tasting, local produce to buy and also non-edible arts and crafts. You haven’t got long to wait – The Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink happens on 24th – 26th April.

Be sure to look out for accommodation here at Choice Cottages

The Tiger who came to Tea

by Admin27. March 2015 10:00

Here’s a little teapot short and stout, tip me up and pour me out! Time for Tea with a Tiger. Honk! Honk! Children’s entertainment on now!
The Tiger Who Came to Tea is all about a large stripy tiger who dropped in for tea with Sophie and her mum. There’s oodles of magic, sing along songs and clumsy chaos (sounds like home from home!) in this family show on at The Queen Theatre in Barnstaple on 1st and 2nd April. If tigers are not for you how about Honk! Based on The Ugly Ducking, Honk is a duck that follows Ugly. I hope he avoids the ever hungry farmyard cat. Honk is on 3rd April at The Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe. If the weather isn’t perfect you could even do both shows.

I?ve heard of Flydrive holidays in USA and New Zealand ? but North Devon?

by Admin26. March 2015 14:53

I’ve heard of Flydrive holidays in USA and New Zealand – but North Devon? Now you can – Fly a 737 and drive a brand new Range Rover WOW!
For the ultimate Fly Drive experience you need to come on holiday to North Devon, stay in the ultimate holiday home and book your Fly Drive Experience. The flying experience is at the Virtual Jet Centre (sorry if I misled you – you only get to pilot a 737 simulator, not the real thing!) but the Range Rover is real. You get to put it through its paces on a challenging off road course. Spend a whole day (lunch included) and practice your flying skills, train to be cabin crew and go in the full motion flight simulator. Just don’t head off to the Southern Ocean and lose your way back to your holiday home!

Appledore?s Coffee Cabin: Sunday Times ? top restaurants to eat under £20

by Admin25. March 2015 10:00

Appledore’s Coffee Cabin: Sunday Times – top restaurants to eat under £20 AND Trip Advisor’s No1 Devon Eaterie – High Praise
The Sunday Times produces a list naming the top restaurants where you can eat for under £20 and there is just one North Devon entry – it is The Coffee Cabin, on The Quay in Appledore. Trip Advisor rates it as the number one place to eat, not just in Appledore, but for the whole of Devon. The Coffee Cabin serves lots of home baking, including cakes, quiches and sandwiches. Their Facebook pages show so many different cakes that my mouth is watering, just looking at them. The only problem is that it’s not a big place and with reviews like this I’ll never manage to get in!
