Should Old Acquaintance be forgot, and never thought upon; The flames of Love extinguished, and fully past and gone: Old Lang Syne

by Admin31. December 2014 19:31

Of course you know the words, you’ll be out singing them at midnight tonight won’t you? Seeing the New Year in, in North Devon, is always great. There is the world famous party throughout Bideford, quite country pubs with a more gentle welcome, fireworks in all the big towns (particularly spectacular in towns like Barnstaple where you get double the fireworks as they reflect in the water of the estuary.) Maybe a quiet evening in, with good company and a glass or two of fine wine is more your style. Whatever suits you, enjoy it.

Happy New Year from the Choice Team!

If your family party includes a dog then you?ll want to get your paws on a dog friendly Choice Cottage for your self catering Devon Break

by Admin28. December 2014 08:43

Choice Cottages understand that your family includes your pets. They get all sorts of requests for one, two, even four dogs to come and stay, but they get other pet requests too. Can we bring our elderly cat, out parrot, our horses? (yes Choice do have a horse friendly property!) The choice of allowing dogs is left to the property owner, but when you search on the Choice Cottages website you can select to see all the properties that accept dogs. If you want to bring another pet, then you will need to contact the Choice Team by phone or email [Paul Please add the number/email links you want guests to use here] so that they can find just the right property for your extended family. Book dog friendly properties early, as they sell out quickly for school holiday weeks.

I?m a helpful sort of person and I want to help you make your Choice Holiday Home decisions so you can have a prefect Devon break in 2015

by Admin27. December 2014 10:10

First Choice: How big is you holiday group – just the family, or extended family or family and friends? It is often cheaper to hire a larger home with more facilities and share the costs with others, then cousins get to know each other, adults have quality time together, grandparents spend time with grandchildren. Share the cooking, the fun and games, the driving – it all makes sense. But please – only holiday with those you want to spend time with!

Second Choice: Think about how you want to spend you time. On the beach? – then go for a home close to the beach. Teenagers want the attractions of a town? – then town home it is. Walking? – head for one of the stunning rural properties available if you book early.

Third Choice: Do you want to spend time indoors if the weather isn’t perfect? Then has your home got things for all ages to enjoy? The comment I liked most in my welcome book was ‘the only problem we had was getting the teenagers out of the house – there was so much for them to do indoors’! The Choice Cottages descriptions on the website will give you an idea of the extras the property has available.

Simon Says… Boxing Day is the day for fun games and you know that you must always do what Simon Says…Simon Says book a dream holiday!

by Admin27. December 2014 10:08

Christmas is over, the presents in use or eaten, (or safely stowed to be worn for aunty’s next visit!) and its time to think of the future. The future, of course, is sunny, warm, relaxing, happy, luxurious, and spent with people you love. Its time to book that summer holiday. The only problem is that everyone else now does this on Boxing Day too (its so easy with the internet!), so those choice dates in that Choice Cottage that you want, may be booked by someone else if you don’t get a move on! My husband’s called Simon and Simon Says…. Shall I go for Croyde or Appledore? Or maybe Bideford or Ilfracombe? There again what about Barnstaple? I wish Simon would make the decision as well!

Choice Cottages wish all their readers and holiday home visitors a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous, and happy New Year!

by Admin25. December 2014 13:20

What are you doing reading this on Christmas Day? If you are already so bored that you need to read a Choice Blog on Christmas Day then you should have booked a Choice Cottage! Christmas lunch with the sea outside the windows, a family walk in beautiful countryside, a relax with the last of a bottle of wine (of course there is plenty more!) in the hot tub. Maybe you should have booked a home with an indoor pool, a games room or an indoor cinema – send the rest of your family off there while you enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. Make sure you’re not reading this blog next year – go on line and book the perfect Christmas holiday home today!

I’m not giving you much notice of this one – I don’t want you to get cold feet! It a Christmas Day Sea Swim. Are you brave enough?

by Admin24. December 2014 12:06

On Christmas Morning hundreds of swimmers from Cornwall, Devon and the rest of the world, will brave the chill seawater at Crooklets Beach, Bude. The organisers describe it as a refreshing dip in the sea, as a keen Scottish Loch swimmer (summer only!) I describe it as freezing! The event will help raise money for the Northern Hemisphere’s oldest Surf Life Saving Club, based at the beach. You have to grin and bear it if you want to join the 600 other swimmers – wetsuits are only allowed on those under 12 (age not shoe size!). You could join the thousands of spectators who watch the hardy dippers – they will be doing a group warm up and display their festive headgear (there is a competition), before the mad dash into the waves at 11am. I bet the dash out is even quicker!
