60 years of murder, mystery & suspense to be solved in Barnstaple when Agatha Christie?s Mouse Trap comes to town with its famous cast

by Admin30. April 2014 09:00

Agatha Christie - Mouse Trap

The scene is set when a group of people gather in a country house and are cut off by the snow. They discover to their horror that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motive are finally revealed. After 25,000 performances the Mouse Trap is on tour and in Barnstaple Queen’s Theatre from 5th – 10th May. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to see a west end production in the West End of England!

Relax and meander through wooded pathways & herbaceous borders or enjoy Chambercombe?s peaceful water gardens, fed by a natural spring

by Admin29. April 2014 09:00

Chambercombe Manor

After the frantic Easter holiday period it’s time for something more peaceful  - breathe in the fresh air of North Devon, laced with the scents of the rose and herb gardens at Chambercombe Manor. This location may not be known for peace and tranquillity – after all the Manor is one of the most haunted places in the country and you can come for ghost tours or to see the secret chamber where a skeleton was found. Personally I’ll opt for a peaceful re-charge in the gardens and then maybe a light lunch in Ye Olde Manor Buttery. Devon at it’s best.

Johnny Kingdom?s back with everything Exmoor ? wassailing, lambing, red deer and pony round ups! New ITV show

by Admin28. April 2014 10:00

Wassailing

The series of four programmes focus on some of Exmoor’s traditions, such as wassailing. Wassailing is a once-a-year event performed by apple- growing communities to cast out evil spirits in their orchards. It involves singing to the trees, banging drums, firing guns and marching in the street. Also featured in the show is the region’s annual lambing season and the October pony round-up when all Exmoor’s ponies are gathered together, tested for disease and those with problems are retired to local pony lovers. As for the red deer she is called Bambi – watch to find out more (or should that be Moor!) or read this North Devon Journal article. When you watch and wish you were here go online and book up your next holiday cottages in North Devon, so you can visit all the beautiful locations you saw on TV.

Here’s a suggestion that I think you’ll like, this May Bank Holiday weekend, why not avoid all the May Day traffic and mayhem and pop over to Ilfracombe’s Landmark Theatre where you can have a chilling weekend listening to great music. They got it wrong - Woolacombe was voted 2nd best beach in the UK. It?s definitely my Number One! What do you think?

by Admin26. April 2014 09:00

Woolacombe Cottages

Woolacombe’s three miles of golden sand, fantastic surf and clean, safe water was recently voted the second best beach in the UK on Trip Advisor. It was beaten by Rhossili Beach, just across the channel in South Wales. It was also 7th in Europe. If you haven’t visited Woolacombe yet, the beach is level yellow sand, with green hills and rocky headlands, three miles long, has three areas with lifeguards in the holiday season and has wonderful waves, perfect for body boards and surfers. The water is clean, with very little undertow and rarely has rip tides. There are excellent Holiday Cottages in North Devon too! Next year make sure you vote for Woolacombe on Trip Advisor and maybe we can put it at the top of the list – where it definitely deserves to be.

Cornwall is no longer closed! (It never was) You saw the pictures of Dawlish ? now take the train and ride the coastal line yourself.

by Admin24. April 2014 09:00

Tarka train line

David Cameron has done it and now it’s your turn. Take the train from Barnstaple and experience the beautiful Tarka line as it follows the meandering river Taw south from Barnstaple. You can stay on this train all the way to the South Devon coast at Exmouth, or change at Exeter St Davids and take the train on to Dawlish, Newton Abbott, Plymouth or Penzance. Both lines are recognised as being amongst the most scenic in the country and the South Devon towns are well worth a visit (not to mention more stunning beaches, very different from the North Devon ones, but still wonderful.) You can get a ranger one day ticket for less than £10 for an adult and four adults travel for the price of two with a group saver.
