by Admin31. July 2013 11:31

New! – White Wolves at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park

Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park

There is so much to do at the Wildlife and Dinosaur Park that it is hard to know where to start. There are all sorts of animals to see, wallabies, meer cats, wolves, otters and many, many more. There are also experience days – swim with sea lions, fly birds of prey, be a keeper for the day or even feed the lions (you must pre-book for these). The petting zoo, with rabbits, pygmy goats and many other small animals will be a favourite of the younger visitors, whilst the older ones may enjoy other attractions, including the dinosaur show and the earthquake canyon train ride. There are places to buy refreshments or you can take your own and eat them in the 38 acres of park.

TOP TIP: Book online, at least 48 hours in advance, to save money. More info at: www.wildlifedinsosaurpark.co.uk

Spend a Family Day Out at North Devon’s Premier Agricultural Spectacular on Wednesday 7th August 2013

The annual North Devon Show is a celebration of North Devon's agricultural roots. A host of livestock classes occupy the arenas throughout the day with Alpacas, Cattle, Horses, Sheep, Show Jumping and an Open Dog Show. Attractions, displays, demonstrations and trade stands for all. The are several rings and arenas, with such a selection of livestock, horses, ponies, dogs, falcons, carriages, machines, performers etc, that you will need to go onto the website to see them all in advance, as I’m sure there wont be time to see them all on the day. As if that isn’t enough, there is also the Flower Marquee that plays host to a fantastic array of flora, cultivated locally by expert nurserymen. And the food hall - let your taste buds go on a culinary journey across the region by sampling some of the best food and drink from local producers. Help to support these thriving cottage industries by continuing your exploration of regional produce at home! There is also a Craft and Gifts Marquee with over 50 stalls of hand made items created by local crafters. Grab yourself an exclusive design from some of our most gifted artists and skilled craftspeople.  Also a covered marketplace to browse, shop and find yourself a bargain.

Take the Family on a Scarecrow Hunt and visit Cottages in Mortehoe or North Devon Holiday Cottages

Take the Family on a Scarecrow Hunt and visit Cottages in Mortehoe or North Devon Holiday Cottages

Every year there is a spectacular display of scarecrows in The Scarecrow Festival in Mortehoe, near Woolacombe. They appear in gardens, on roofs, handing out of windows, literally everywhere. This year’s theme of Heroes and Villains should really let the local creativity run riot. Will they stick to cops and robbers, or will they be political, historical, literary... the options are endless. I wonder which one will be your favourite. Make sure you have a look at the rest of the village, while you are searching for the scarecrows – it’s well worth a visit and then perhaps spend the rest f the day on the fabulous adjacent Woolacombe Beach, or walking around the coast path and rocky headlands of Morte Point. Mortehoe is a village and former manor on the north coast of Devon, England. It lies 10 miles north-west of Barnstaple, near Woolacombe and Lee Bay, and is sited in a valley within the hilly sand-dune-like land behind Morte Point. Mortehoe can trace its origins back to the Domesday Book, and beyond. Always a farming community, in former years it was a base for smugglers and wreckers. Since the coming of the railway, notably the Ilfracombe Branch Line, Mortehoe has become much more dependent on tourism. The Mortehoe Heritage Centre, based in the Cart Linhay building, also acts as the local tourist information office. On the upper floor is a museum of the history of the most north-westerly tip of North Devon. The museum has displays about the local farming communities, the railway, and the numerous shipwrecks that occurred off the treacherous rocks around the nearby coast. Holiday Cottages UK are available in Mortehoe itself or the nearby village of Woolacombe, have a look at what could have been available for you to book for this year’s holiday, had you known, and then go ahead and reserve it for next year.

Join Complete Madness at Ilfracombe’s Landmark Theatre on Friday 2nd August for a Night at the Theatre, during your North Devon Holidays

Complete Madness

Authentically recreating the madness of Madness, this five-piece band will take you on a musical journey whilst capturing the story of one of Britain's most memorable, visual and fun bands. Complete with crazy costumes, comedy and chirpy banter, Complete Madness invites you to hear those Madness classics: House of Fun, Baggy Trousers, One Step Beyond, It Must Be Love, Driving In My Car... Have a look at the Complete Madness website to find out more about the band and watch some of their video clips. Alternatively you could create complete madness of your own. I’ll try to stick to suggesting the legal ones! How about creating a traditional kids party tea (must include pink Party Ring biscuits and jelly!) in your holiday cottages uk and taking it to the beach for a midnight feast or perhaps play Jacks (a card game where the winner specifies what mix of liquids the loser has to drink. Just don’t allow the kitchen cleaning liquids to be included!) and get a really good hangover, or....your turn! I should just go on line and get your tickets to the official Complete Madness before you come up with any really silly ideas!

A Family Weekend Out and a ?Slave Auction? in aid of RNLI at Clovelly on 3rd ? 4th August 2013

A Family Weekend Out and a ‘Slave Auction’ in aid of RNLI at Clovelly on 3rd – 4th August 2013

RNLI Clovelly

This Lifeboat Weekend is being held in aid of the RNLI at Clovelly Harbour, Clovelly. RNLI is close to the heart of many costal residents and visitors alike, with their volunteers always ready to rush out to provide assistance in an emergency, anything from a family inflatable caught in the wind, close to shore, to an oil tanker in difficulties many miles offshore. Lifeboats are purchased with money from donations. The Clovelly Lifeboat is called the Spirit of Clovelly and fundraising events are always being held to be able to keep the lifeboats and their crew up to date and fully equipped. The Clovelly Lifeboat House will be open to the public on both days to the public. On Saturday there'll be a sponsored swim from Bucks Mills to Clovelly.  On Sunday enjoy a cross dressing-up race, a tug-of-war and the ever popular slave auction in which young local men are 'sold' to the highest bidder to do their chores for the day.  With many local stalls, a cobble race, an auction of pledges, a lifeboat display and a helicopter flypast the whole family is sure to have a fantastic day out.
