Holiday Cottage Accommodation | Top 5 reasons to go Self Catering

by Justin Beckley29. May 2012 16:00

It's easy to get depressed and submit to defeat in these trying times. With the prevailing economic climate across most of the western world and the potential demise of the Euro, now more than ever, families are holding onto the silver lining in the proverbial British cloud and which will make the rest of the year seem tolerable: The family holiday.

Along with economic crises, the political instability of many countries across the Middle East and other factors influencing holidaymakers behaviour, (like the difficulty in finding pet friendly holidays abroad), the UK is becoming an ever more desirable destination for the internal populous.

It's not all bad news that influences the impetus to take holidays locally in recent times. In 2012 in particular, there is a lot going on. A lot to be proud of. A lot to look forward to. In fact I dare say old chap, this is the year to celebrate England, which packed with unmissable events and unique spectacles, will undoubtably be a very special year. Whether you travel across the country to wave to The Queen during the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant , indulge your love of literature at the World Shakespeare Festival and Dickens 2012, or go to see Lake Windermere like never before; courtesy of Les Commandos Percu, there is something on for everyone this year. As if that wasn’t enough, follow the Olympic Torch to some of England’s finest landmarks, cheer on the world’s best athletes in the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and soak up some culture in the London 2012 Festival.

So why choose self catering holiday accommodation?

  1. Cheaper: Well for a start, it's cheaper per person than staying in a hotel. For example: A 6 bedroomed property in Croyde might cost you £2,300 per week in peak weeks, but when you consider the property will probably sleep 12, that means the cost per person is from £192 - or put another way; only £27 per person a night. Accommodating 12 people, (assuming 4 families), in hotel accommodation for the same peak period is easily going to cost in excess of £3,000 - and that's before all the extras.
  2. More flexibility: You have the freedom to come and go when you please and eat what you want, when you want it - More often at a lower cost than eating out or having meals at a hotel. In fact many guests choose to take advantage of services such as Tesco's Home Delivery, so that their groceries are delivered soon after their arrival.
  3. Enhanced facilities: Many holiday cottages in the uk have additional facilities and quality fixtures & fittings that would be difficult to find, without shelling out for 5 star hotel accommodation. These include: Pet friendly properties, luxury furnishings, hot tubs, private indoor pools, large enclosed gardens with BBQ's and entertainment spaces for large groups to name a few.
  4. Family friendly: Properties with multiple bedrooms allow extended families to have their own private bedrooms, but with the convenience of communal entertainment spaces to share quality time together, celebrate a special occasion or allow the kids to play in a secure, safe environment.
  5. Location: In order to protect the charm of many quaint villages along the English coast and in thecountryside, developers are not permitted to erect hotels in some of the best locations. This is particularly so in the South West and when you consider the top surf location of Croyde for example, which has very limited hotel accommodation.

Along with the obvious benefits of staying Self Catering Accommodation, there are plenty of reasons to holiday in the UK this season and by all accounts the summer weather is proving glorious so far.

We hope to see you in the surf soon...
